The principles of operation of a
hydraulic actuator are like those of the pneumatic actuator

when a large amount of force is
required to operate a valve (for example, the main steam system valves)
•
Piston types are the most common.
3.2 Explain the concept hydraulic
devices
Two
common types:
- Single action cylinder (SAC)
- Double action cylinder (DAC)

The PISTON is inside the
cylinder, the diameter of which is known as the BORE.
•
piston seal to
keep the pressure from bypassing to the other side
•
build the required pressure
•
ROD
(or shaft) of the cylinder, usually with the rod passing through the piston and
attached with a large nut on the opposite end
•
(same with pneumatics type)
