3.2.1 Describes the basic hydraulic system

3.2.1 Describes the basic hydraulic system

The principles of operation of a hydraulic actuator are like those of the pneumatic actuator
when a large amount of force is required to operate a valve (for example, the main steam system valves)
Piston types are the most common.

3.2 Explain the concept hydraulic devices

Two common types:
  1. Single action cylinder (SAC)
  2. Double action cylinder (DAC)

The PISTON is inside the cylinder, the diameter of which is known as the BORE.

piston seal to keep the pressure from bypassing to the other side

      build the required pressure

ROD (or shaft) of the cylinder, usually with the rod passing through the piston and attached with a large nut on the opposite end

      (same with pneumatics type)
